Our
Values
Authenticity
We strive to hold awareness of our own areas of privilege and practice from a place of cultural humility. We practice trauma informed therapy are affirming of LGBTQIA2S+, BIPOC, fat, and neurodivergent folx.
Playfulness
We believe that humor and playfulness are healing, and can give us power over our trauma. Our group sessions are often places of laughter and joy as well as tears and grief.
Connection
Our groups are a place to connect with your authentic self and connect with others. All parts and all feelings are welcome.
Respect
We strive to respect each other, respect ourselves, and respect everyone’s unique perspectives and experiences.
Compassion
Our space is a place of compassion for ourselves and for each other. No one is expected to have compassion for people or systems that have caused them harm.
Community
Finding community can be difficult. We aim to create a space where everyone feels a sense of belonging exactly as you are. This leads to community based on authenticity rather than “fitting in.”
Tears for Queers
Guy and Carly met during their graduate program at Bastyr University in Kenmore, WA. Throughout their two year cohort program, they bonded over shared values, enjoyment of food, and laughing at all of the ridiculousness in life. They dreamed of co-facilitating groups early on and Tears for Queers is the culmination of six years of visioning in the making.
Guy appreciates Carly’s compassionate attunement, witty sense of humor, and caring attention to detail.
Carly appreciates Guy’s thoughtfulness, intentionality, fun spirit, and delicious cooking.
Outside of running groups together, you can find these two playing charades, drinking milk tea, enjoying waffles, and singing the occasional karaoke.
